The Think Big Revolution

Every Revolutionary needs three things : credibility, visibility, and faster growth for their audience and their business.

A Ning Ring or joint blog is one of the lowest cost, most effective ways for the Think Big Revolutionary to establish and promote your Internet brand and in the process to also build credibility and visibility.

A Ning Ring is a small community of 5 to 10 bloggers who all want to write about a topic similar or related to your Revolution or industry, for example : a group of publishing coaches ( theauthorsvillage.ning.com ) or future CEO’s ( startupceotraining.ning.com ).

These bloggers agree to create a joint blog ( called a Ning Ring since Ning.com is one of the easiest ways to set this up ). And they agree to a simple rule : each blogger will post one article and make three comments on the other posts each week.

Instant Credibility : As soon as you have four or five members in your Ning Ring with a non-embarrassing photo and well written profiles ( see The Three Most Important Articles ... ) then when any person comes to your blog they will find you in the company of several other experts or commentators in your field, this gives you instant credibility.

Visibility : Even with only five authors the site would have 15 posts a week and if you schedule them properly it is easy to have at least one post a day without any one author having to do a lot of work or writing. A blog site with at least one post per day is one of the most highly valued sites in Google and other search engines. So, within 30 to 60 days of five authors writing one article and posting a few comments each week your joint blog / Ning Ring will be ranked as very relevant and be very visible to anyone looking for it. Making your site visible to people who aren’t looking for it is another topic, but a Ning Ring figures prominently in solving that problem as well.

The credibility and visibility created by a well run Ning Ring allows you to define and promote your Internet brand. Creating an effective Internet brand is one of the most important ( and cost effective ) steps to establishing you in your marketplace as an expert and industry leading commentator.

Russell, thanks for your words of wisdom and your encouragement. I'd like to add that in addition to increasing visibility and credibility, you also increase profitability.

How? Faster growth for your audience and your business means more people get to discover you and explore what you have to say. If they find you interesting, they'll be back. And they're the people you want to come back. Learning more about you and what you have to offer is how they'll come to know, like and trust you. And those are the prerequisites for them finding you and what you offer valuable to them. That's when they're more likely to buy from you!

One of the best ways to give people what they want and need is to ask them. What better platform to find out what people in your target market want than to use the power of social networking ~ blogs, Ning rings, Twitter, Facebook, and the like.

Ask questions ~uicy, thought-provoking questions. Ask for people's opinions and experiences. Some will answer. Even if you only hear from 20% of those who follow you, you'll know more about what your people are looking for. Then all you need to do is create 'it', find others who have already created 'it' and offer their offerings to your audience, and invite those very people who we would once have called our competition to become contributors to your Ning Ring, promoters of each other's offerings, and possible once you've gotten to know, like and trust them, strategic alliance partners.

What to explore how to make these ideas a reality? Get active. Get involved. Visit this Revolution, read what's written here, and comment. Isn't this our own Ning Ring already? Help us all rise to the surface of a crowded marketplace so we can shine and serve those who are looking for us!

HI I read this post along time ago and although I could understand it in theory I am just now understanding how it can be applied.

I see how powerful this can be.
If you see any of my interests as you surf this site and you think we can participate in a relevant ring at some time let me know. I visit this site at least 2 times per day.
Russell, you are so on the money... literally and figuratively. I'm on a team of 3. We post comments to each others' blogs and now we're talking about choosing 1 topic per week that we all write about to really focus our efforts. I know that people who follow your advice will become more visible and credible so much faster using a Ning Ring. And here we are on a Ning site. I wonder how many have read your post, and more important, how many are creating a Ning Ring here.

To our individual and collective ever expanding joy and success

Hi Russel,

I have been involved in design and marketing for over 20 years and am just getting my feet wet with the idea of blogging and taking advantage to the SN environment.

Your advice is clear, succinct and makes the whole SN, Blog, world much easier to manage. However, I find myself holding back and I guess that is understanding that, yes, we now have the power to be an instant success, but that also means we can instantly looks like a dork who learn how to create a website or blog.

:)

Ah, Karen, Russell is full of wisdom. One of my favorites is "learining in public." Remember that all this social networking stuff, blogging, actually all online marketing is relatively new. Yes, there are a few names you'll see everywhere. If you measure your abilities, talent, progress, etc. by them, you'll fall short and feel bad - neither of which serve you. Jump in, the water's great. We're all splashing around together. That's how we're learning. So join us. We're having fun.

And if you want support, encouragement and guidance, join Russell and me in one of our courses. I'll be posting new information about our fall offerings at http://marketingtoyourworld.com later this week.

In the mean time, keep taking baby steps, little stretches, whatever feels good, posting questions and comments. That's how we're learning, too.
Russell,
I think this idea is very powerful. It is also one of the ways that the internet can help small businesses work together and get results that were only in the reach of large businesses in the very recent past.

Jim, I agree with you. The more I play in the arena of Social Collaboration, the more convinced I am that this is the new frontier and where we solopreneurs need to be playing. It's great to be meeting others who know this is where to be. Thanks for joining us. I hope others do, too.
