Selfishness = Service

I was talking with a client this week about selfishness. I was encouraging her to be more selfish. In fact, I coached her to put the phrase " I will be more selfish today" everywhere she could. Selfishness has gotten a bad rap. I stand for serving my clients, my family, my colleagues and my loved ones. However, at the top of my list is serving me. Without renewal, taking care of myself, and sometimes gently saying no, I can't serve others. When we fail to take care of ourselves we have no more…See More

Megan McKenzie commented on Michael Port's blog post This Thinking Big Thing Could Be Scary…
"I am taking a stand. 2009 is the year for putting the "me' back into Megan. I am committed to not worrying about being too "big", "enthusiastic', 'focused", or about not spelling well, being too short, or…"

Megan McKenzie commented on Michael Port's blog post Increase discomfort. Increase candor.
"Michael: Discomfort = growth and progress. Here is what I see as the steps - at least for me: 1) Embrace the concept that uncertainty, discomfort, and constant silencing of the gremlins is a part of growth, change and Thinking Big. 2) Commit to…"

Megan McKenzie commented on Michael Port's blog post Submit to Authority to Be an Authority
"Michael -today is my birthday. This was a gift. The older I get, the more willing I am to be authentic. And yes, sometimes it is scary, sometimes it is marvelous, sometimes I am 'too megan" and sometimes not enough. i do find, that when I…"

Time Management IS a myth.

We have been sold a fantasy, which is great for the writers of books, and not so good for us. Here is the reality – time is a finite asset, and once it is spent it is gone forever. It is impossible to manage it, harness it, stretch it, make more of it, or in most cases, do more with the finite resource of time we have each day. Rather we need to look at time as a finite asset, which requires spending it wisely rather than wastefully. When I was 10, my family took me to the State Fair. This was a…See More

That Elusive Beast.....Time Management

I talked with a mentor/friend/colleague yesterday who answered the phone breathless. I had visions of him just completing a workout. Instead, the cause of his breathless was 'multi-tasking", which we all fall victim to. Since I stand for helping entrepreneurs with tools and strategies that help them build their business while staying sane, I raised the issue in my mind once again about time management.Time management is a hot topic. We are inundated with messages to “work more efficiently” and…See More

What do you want to think bigger about?

What other big thinkers do you find influential?
Michael Port (of course!), Deepak Chopra, Stephen Covey, Michael Gerber, Wayne Dyer, DAvid Allen, Seth Godin, Malcolm Gladwell, Thomas Leonard, Tolland, Daniel Goldman...and so much more

How are you going to make '09 Great?

I think part of thinking big is to blend creative thinking with disciplined planning. Unless we have written yearly/quarterly/weekly and daily goals, we (a) don't know where we are going (b) don't know if we have gotten there and (c) have difficulty staying focused. WRITTEN goals, rather than those rumbling around in our heads, help us to measure our accomplishments, and let us know if we are staying on track. Lives are busy, complex and often noisy - quiet planning helps center our energy and… Continue

The Power and Joy of Community

Posted on October 30, 2008 at 6:59pm 3 Comments

I was honored to be asked to read a portion of Michael's new book, The Think Big Revolution, so I knew that this site was in the making. The draft blew me away. The thought of yet another cyber- community... not so much. I was absolutely wrong. This site, this community and the energy that is already being created, leaves me almost breathless. As I travel through my life, I am often the "coach", the "expert", the "finder of solutions - and sometimes missing socks". I am blessed with great… Continue

Well, I used to call O'Hare my second home but, no, I am not in the city very often. It is funny in that I am at home in many American and European cities but Chicago has always been foreign to me. Perhaps it comes from living too close but not close enough.
