What do you want to think bigger about?
The world, how people interact with each other, stereotypes and "shoulds," my own life.
What other big thinkers do you find influential?
The list is very long....people who have made a lasting difference to me across my life include people like Buckminster Fuller, Marshall Thurber, Jimmy Buffett, Paul Newman, Galileo, John Harrison, Jane Goodall, and others who were courageous enough to buck the tides of the thinking of their day to step out and make a difference.

To give you a laugh, here are the Bolofeesh of Paul Durban, one of my heroes!

Coloring Outside the Lines: Retire First, then Work

The moment I decided to go bluewater sailboat cruising stands out clearly in my mind. I was standing on a Southern California bluff staring out at the Pacific Ocean, still a little bit in shock. It was the afternoon of my father’s funeral; he had died young at 63, after a brief and losing battle with cancer

I was 29 years old, and had acquired many of my father’s Type A traits. Following his example, I had propelled myself along the rail tracks of the American Dream of professional… Continue

A Key Ingredient to Thinking Big and Sparking Big Thoughts in Others: AUTHENTICITY

Posted on October 24, 2008 at 1:19pm 4 Comments

I've been a big thinker since childhood, and my passion for making the world work is bottomless!

I believe that the best way for me to think big all day every day is to be AUTHENTIC. That means allowing my compassion, concern, and desire to be of use to others to show alongside the other (easier) stuff, like my sense of humor, gift of gab and high energy.

I am committed to being authentic, understanding that this will sometimes make me and the people with whom I interact… Continue

Trish, you hit it on the head in your comment about Michael's Reality of Reality, only there's substantially more to that "thought template" than knowing you've crossed that bridge before, as there is to authenticity than compassion and concern. Having objectives without BEING objective is just chasing windmills. The question is how to teach everyone how to bring the vast amount of knowledge they have acquired to bear on things they don't quite understand, so it isn't always impeding them. Think about it: as different as all of us are, we have a relatively uniform structure, as do the very elements of which the universe is composed. Does it not stand to reason that information, itself, has a uniform structure, as well? People who see things they don't understand in terms of things they already know, as every book or article about getting your head or act together continually does, are forever in touch with Reality. Those who can't are forever a little lost in it. Sounds simple enough, but there is as much more to illustrating a point with anecdotes and analogies than meets the eye as playing a sport or musical instrument. Interestingly, the process of acquiring those skills are one & the same. You can actually delay and possibly even reverse the onset of Alzheimers and other brain disorders this way.

High compliment indeed. If only I could use my twisted mind to be as commercially successful.
