I was talking with a client this week about selfishness. I was encouraging her to be more selfish. In fact, I coached her to put the phrase " I will be more selfish today" everywhere she could. Selfishness has gotten a bad rap. I stand for serving my clients, my family, my colleagues and my loved ones. However, at the top of my list is serving me. Without renewal, taking care of myself, and sometimes gently saying no, I can't serve others. When we fail to take care of ourselves we have no more energy to make a difference to others. When we forget to choose "yes" to something for ourselves, we become depleted. When we are burned out, tired, and empty we can't stand in service of anyone.
Spend today doing one good thing for yourself. Embrace your inner no from time to time. Be selfish so you can stand in the service of others with energy, wisdom and caring.
What are you going to do today to make a difference to yourself?
